Transfers Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to complete the transfer application?
Typically completed in 3–4 business days. During busier periods, especially as the season starts, 6–7 business days.
What should I do if our moving date is after the tryout dates and the season has already started?
If you are moving after the season has started or after the tryout dates, you can apply for permission to try out, allowing you to try out for the team.
What should we do if we are moving in with a family member?
If you are moving in with a family member, you will need to provide written documentation from the homeowner about the living situation. If the utility bills and insurance are covered by the homeowner and there are no supporting documents, it is recommended that you upload your driver's license, vehicle registration, and insurance showing the service address, along with the player’s school information reflecting the residential address for the transfer.
What happens if the parents are separated but do not have a separation or custody agreement?
If the parents are separated but do not have a separation or custody agreement, the transfer will be denied because the OHF cannot determine the player’s primary residence without custody agreement. Applicants will have the opportunity to appeal the OHF decision to Hockey Canada.
What if the player is moving with a guardian instead of parents?
If the player is moving with a guardian, an authorized guardianship order from the court is required. If this is not available, you will need to appeal to Hockey Canada for the residential transfer.
What if I don’t have all the required documents to complete the transfer application?
If you don’t have all the required documents, please upload a written explanation outlining why the documents are missing.
Do we need to upload driving licenses for both parents?
Yes, both parents’ driving licenses must be uploaded. If the hard copy of the driving license has not been received, you can upload the change of address receipt from Service Ontario.
Why am I still receiving an incomplete application email after uploading all the documents?
The reason you might receive an incomplete application email after uploading all documents could be that the parent is entering their own name instead of the player's name. We recommend that wherever the form asks for a name, it should be the player's name. Also, ensure that all documents are properly uploaded.
